The Mirror
Moon 10 - Eclipse
Like a call to action, the shrieking of the Swift wakes me and marks the beginning of my long journey back, back to the dark, back home. What sets me apart from Swift, is that the initial movement pattern of my return is on foot. Walking towards the now familiar bend in the road, the orange mombreshia blaze like flames on the verge, seeming to light my way. As I turn the corner, I see the old mountain ahead rising up out of the ground to greet me.
The warm lake water is condensing and meeting the sky, shrouding everything in silver mist, droplets of the lake dancing around me as I balance heel to toe, one foot in front of the other. My body feels heavy and my bones weary. I remind myself that I’ve only just set out, my head is unsure how to process this information.
The sky is silver. My left foot seems to be walking in a different world to my right. With each step I take, the distance between these two ‘worlds’ expands. The sun now sits low and begins to disappear.
I stop.
Pause.
Listen.
Slowly the shadow descends.
Lesson 1: Navigation makes no sense in eclipse.
Silver turns to deep grey and day turns to dusk. There are no noises, just the hum inside me. I look over and see myself in the dark, dull circle that should be the bright sun. I see the path reflected as it navigates the way ahead for me… Reassured I’m on the right road, my feet begin to move in tandem.
