Fire in the Bog

From the “Writing the Next World” Retreat

Happy Equinox!

One of the most powerful moments for me at Bog & Thunder’s Writing the Next World retreat with Adrienne and Autumn Brown was stepping into sound, not as performance, but as offering. I offered morning meditation sessions for the week and focused on the elements. This clip is from the end of the Fire meditation.

The week was about more than just putting pen to paper. We listened. We hummed. We opened ourselves to the land and to each other.

Out of that listening came a series of soundscapes, created by the wizard Dwight Dunston, which stitched together fragments of voice, atmosphere, breath, and song, forming a kind of living archive of those days.

You can listen to my piece here, along with the full retreat album: Bog & Thunder -Writing the Next World (Soundscapes)

These recordings aren’t polished performances. They’re invitations. They carry the hum of bodies in circle, and the energy of words still in formation. They’re a reminder that imagination is not only written but also sounded, felt, and shared.

If you take a moment with them, I’d love to hear what lands with you.
What does fire spark in you? Let me know what you hear in them, which sounds anchor you, unsettle you, or open a door. What kind of world might we begin to hum, chant, and call into being together? Does it feel grounding? Strange? Familiar?

Because maybe the first step in writing the next world… is learning to listen to the one that’s already here.

Because maybe the next world begins in a sound we remember together. x
